AnnAlysis: Wicked and Killer
I’m going to do a double review this time, something I’ve never done before. The raeson I’m doing it, I felt the exact same way about books five and six in the Pretty Little Liars series.
*Note* There are spoilers in this post if you have not read the first four books.
A has finally been revealed and is dead. So everything should be getting back to normal in Rosewood, right? Not so much! It takes a while, but strange things keep happening in the lives of four pretty little girls.
And they know that the original A didn’t kill Alison, but now that someone has been arrested for the murder shouldn’t there be closure? Same answer as the last question. NO!
And as hard as they are pushing against the suspect, the suspect is pushing right back and may push hard enough to turn the tables on the girls, making them look like the ones who need help.
So Alison’s alleged killer is on the run. Or is he? Is he alive? Is he dead? If he is alive, who is he running from? Is he still in Rosewood? And is he the one that is sending texts claiming to be A?
That’s a good enough description for all of the questions in this book because almost everything you thought, well, you thought wrong!
I read the first four books in this series and couldn’t put them down. They were amazing and kept me turning the pages. As soon as I finished one, I was ready to start the other. The only reason I read these two back-to-back was because I wasn’t sure if the show was going on the same path as the books and I wanted to make sure I was up to date. Good news, the show still hasn’t revealed who the original A is and we are way past that in the books.
I wasn’t really a fan of Wicked. It was just meh for me. The best part of the book was in the last 20 pages. Now Killer was very similar. It definitely wasn’t as juicy as the first four books, but had a little bit more bite than Wicked. And the ending was WHOAH! I just felt that there was a lot of lag time between them. I know you have to have sub plots and other little things going on, but I really think that these two books could have been put together and I would have liked it a whole lot more. It would have spread around the drama and condensed the little love affairs. With the real “A” dead and the secrets buried, the new “A” is more of someone who seems to be helping the girls out and trying to urge them to find out who really killed Ali.
I give Wicked 3 bookmarks and Killer 4 bookmarks. I don’t have the next one in the series and probably won’t rush out to buy it.
I do wonder how I would feel about books 5 and 6 if I also wasn’t watching the show week-to-week. There’s so many different things and characters in the show and many different story lines. I can’t however not watch the show. I am addicted. I’ll eventually get the next books, but I’m not “dying” to read them. Pun intended!
Booking Through Christmas
While we all love the clothes and jewelry and shoes and electronics at Christmas, there are a select few of us that live for the bookish gifts we will receive.
Every year I say this, but this year I hit the jackpot on the bookie gifts.
Here are the books I got:
What I normally do at Christmas is pick up a bunch of books I want and give them to my brother to give to me. Good deal, right? This year, I stuck with books from a series that I need. I love all of these series’ and can’t wait to read all of them.
I also got some awesome bookmarks this Christmas:
I’ve posted before about magnetic bookmarks. These are lifesavers for me. I always throw my book in my bag and go. With a regular bookmark, I am normally trying to remember which page I was on, because it’s almost always guaranteed to fall out. But with magnetic bookmarks, I never lose them, and I can put them on the line where I finished so I know exactly where to start again.
Now, I know I just talked about regular bookmarks and my lack of love for them, but how awesome is my wooden bookmark on the left? I got this at the Bob Evans Farm Festival this year. There was a booth with hundreds of bookmarks, each with a different design cut out of it. As soon as we found the booth, my mom and I started searching for one that would suit me. We were almost at the end and giving up until we found the on with the state of West Virginia, my new home state. I love it! (The state and the bookmark)
I didn’t take a picture of my gift cards, but I got so many gift cards, I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself. Along with my friend WriteMeg! , I am going to make 2011 the year I read what I want. I’m not changing much about my habits, but if I want to read something this year, I’m not going to hesitate. I’m going to jump on it! So, for me this year, gift cards are amazing! I got $100 worth of gift cards from Borders this year and $50 worth from Barnes and Noble (for my Nook). I have no idea where I am even going to start with these!
I have already made my first, after Christmas purchase for the year. My husband and I went shopping the day after Christmas, which I normally avoid. We both got some pretty good deals, but the best deal was this:
I follow Ally on Twitter and have wanted to read this book forever. But I am very reluctant about buying books. I have two bookshelves full at my house and am probably the biggest tight wad you’ll ever meet. So, when I was scanning the sale books at Borders this weekend, I jumped on this copy of Heist Society. It was on sale for $5.99. I figured I had enough in gift cards to make this purchase. Little did I know that I had $5 in Borders Bucks, so I ended up paying $1.05 for this hardcover copy. I was ecstatic and my husband was laughing hysterically. He asked if they knew me by name in Borders lol
So, as you can see, I’m extremely happy with my Christmas goods. What did you get this year????
A to Z Challenge Update
As September begins, I only have 4 books left in my A to Z Challenge and I already have them lined up. Here’s what you can expect in the next month or so.
I: Interview with the Vampire (No secret, I love vampires. I’ve heard great things about this. October read for sure)

K: Killer Cruise (I’m reading now)

W: Wicked: Witch and Curse (I just ordered off Amazon to take Wuthering Heights spot…yay!)

Y: Your Mouth Drives me Crazy (This was an Oprah Book Club book my mom read, not as steamy as she expected lol)

If you’ve read any of these, without giving away spoilers, let me know what you think
