The vamps have come out to the public and seem to be doing ok. Yes, they get scrutinized and don’t have all the freedoms that living beings do, but it’s better than being in the closet, or casket (laugh, it was a joke). So, the Weres decide they want to be out of the closet too. They make a big announcement and so themselves to the world on national tv. It doesn’t take long for the ish to hit the fan in Sookie’s world after the big reveal. One of the werepanthers is murdered in the parking lot of Merlotts. That’s just the beginning of the bad news. There’s a war forming between the good and the bad guys in the fae world, with Sookie’s grandpa leading the good side. And there’s nothing less than a target on Sookie’s head. Get Sookie, get gramps, end the war. Oh, but you know Sookie, she isn’t going down fighting. And did I forget to mention there’s a little marriage agreement in this one? Yes, there is!

It’s been a while since I read a TrueBlood book, but it’s always easy to catch back up to where I left off. There’s been so many characters and people in and out of the 9 books, I know I can’t remember them all, but Harris does a good job of reminding us their importance.

One of the things that I love about Harris is that she always bring something new to the table with these books. In the first one there were vampires, then werepeople, then fairies. Now, the fairy world is starting to come more to light, but honestly, I’m not sure how much I love it. I can dig the vamps and the weres, but fairies and goblins and demons, they all start to confuse me about what they do and don’t do and what the difference is. I hope she doesn’t go far down this path. Stick with the vamps. They are sexy and aged, like a fine wine!

I give Dead and Gone 4bookmarks.

Sookie Stackhouse is at it again. Her brother experiences his first “shift” to the supernatural and is loving it, but when shifters start getting shot, he’s one of the first people to be questioned. But figuring out who the shooter is is just one of the troubles Sookie is facing. Her house is caught on fire, Bill has a new lady he’s bringing in the bar and since she’s been named a “friend of the pack” to local were pack, she must take part in the ritual to choose a new leader.

This book didn’t really do it for me. I love Sookie and all the twists and turns in the book, but this one didn’t pull me in like the others. I read the first 100 pages in a couple of sittings, but after that it fell off for me.

I think the main turnoff for me in this bok was the ritual of choosing a new were leader. It was very gruesome and although told well, it was just too much for me.

I normally have a lot to say on these, but I’m at a loss for words and not in a good way.

To the point, I give Dead as a Doornail  2 bookmarks and have my fingers crossed that the rest don’t let me down. But, I will say that with the Stephanie Plum series, some books I loved, others I didn’t, so my hopes are still up!

Dead to the World

Release: May 4, 2004

Dead to the World is the fourth in the Sookie Stackhouse series. The book starts on New Year’s Eve (that’s actually the day I started reading it as well). Sookie is traveling home from a night of work when she spots a man, stark naked, running down the road. Little did Sookie know until she stopped and got a good look that this was the most powerful, oldest and most prominent vampire in their area. And, there’s a little problem: He’s lost his memory! And it’s up to Sookie to keep him safe until they can find out how to get it back. But this isn’t Sookie’s only problem. Her brother Jason is missing and there was blood on the deck. Cougar blood. That’s never good! So now, Sookie has to keep her vampire safe, find her brother and stick to her resolution which is not getting beaten up. Oh and I almost forgot to mention that another supernatural being is thrown in the mix.

I really enjoyed this book. There was drama from start to finish and while one plot unfolded, the other got messier. I had an idea about how things would go, but it didn’t take away from the book that I was on the right track.

Once again, Harris introduces us to more craziness. Not only are there vampires, shape shifters, Weres etc., now there’s also witches and fairies. I can’t imagine who she still has to add. There are 5 more books. I can’t think of any other Supes.

All of my favorite characters were back in this book. I love Alcide and Bubba and I love the new Eric! But this series started out as a vampire series and this book was a little different. Yes, the plot was around saving a vampire, but there were so many other Supes in this one, it didn’t really seem as much as a vampire book.

This series is reminding me a lot of the Stephanie Plum series, but while Stephanie fights real bad guys, Sookie fights supernatural ones. They both want to get through the day alive and always end up in the middle of the drama. They also always think about the days before the drama started. As I imagine I would too. I’m glad for the similarities. I wasn’t sure if I’d be able to fill the void of
Miss Plum but now I have.

I give Dead to the World 4 bookmarks.

The Sookie Stackhouse Series:
1. Dead Until Dark
2. Living Dead in Dallas
3. Club Dead

Club Dead

Released: April 29, 2003

As I read this book, it made me think a lot of the Stephanie Plum series. But before I tell you why, let me tell you what happens in this book.

Trouble is once again brewing for Miss Sookie. And this time her mind reading duties have to save her beloved vamp Bill. Who would’ve thought that she, a crazy mortal, would be able to save the undead? For this, she heads to Mississippi and plays pretend girlfriend to another unhuman. There’s death, there’s destruction, there’s blood and of course, there’s some heat (in more than one way).

When I said this book reminded me a lot of the Stephanie Plum novels, it is for a couple of reasons.
1. Once again Sookie is in trouble. It’s dangerous, but she does what she has to do. No matter the scenario, Stephanie also always finds herself in trouble, and always gets through it.
2. There are so many scrumptious men that Sookie has to choose from. In this series, Bill reminds me of Morelli. Eric reminds me of Ranger and Alcide reminds me Diesel.

And while we’re on the Stephanie Plum page, I have realized how much I really like how authors who write a series keep us informed without repeating too much. I like how in this series, as well as the Plum series, if you miss a book (how dare you) or haven’t read one in a while, you won’t miss out. Everything will be explained as if it was the first in the series, but it’s never repetitive. I really, really like that!

One thing about this book that I really liked was we FINALLY found out who Bubba is. I’m not going to spill it for you if you haven’t read it yet, but I think you’ll be pleasant surprised. I sure was. I know that is a silly reason for me to like a book, but it’s the little things!

I also liked that with the start of each book, we get another “creature” if you must. First we were introduced to the vampires. In the second book,we were introduced to the maenad and in this one, we meet werewolves and even a goblin. The only thing about all the different players is a few times I had to re-read parts to remember who was what.

And when it came to the weres, there was a time or two where it said “were” as in werewolf and I read it as were (We were going). I was sooo confused about the grammar until I realized I was the wrong party :)

I actually got through this book quicker than the other ones in this series. I liked Sookie from the get-go, but I’m really liking her now. She’s kicking butt and taking names. I was not a big fan of Bill in this book. He did some things that would’ve made me not want to save him. Sookie may be more of a woman than I am. But I like the variety of other characters we get to meet. They make not take a swim in every book, but I like that we get a little splash from them and others I expect to see again later, or at least I hope so.

This has been my favorite Sookie book so far. I give it 4 bookmarks.
