PostHeaderIcon Etsy Find Fridays: Brooch Bouquet

I cannot rave enough about this meme started by my pal WriteMeg! Every week I gush about it and every week I love it more and more .

This week, I had planned to do a post about awesome Jane Eyre stuff that I found on Etsy, but got sidetracked when a friend of mine posted on Twitter about a brooch bouquet.

I’ve been in love with the brooch bouquet since Miranda Lambert and Blake Shelton got married this summer.

She used a brooch bouquet and had everyone that attended her shower bring in a brooch to add to it.

I am not a huge fan of flowers because they are expensive and they die. I wish I would have seen this before my wedding and I definitely would have done it.

It’s such an awesome wedding keepsake.

I tried to talk my cousin into doing something similar to this, but she had her heart set on roses, and I wasn’t fighting a bride ;)

I actually forgot about the bouquets until today and never thought to look on Etsy. They have everything else, why not these?? I heard there were a lot to offer on Etsy.

I would rather have made one myself, but if you aren’t crafty and need assistance, maybe you could go with one of these and add a few personal touches of your own.

Now one thing I learned while looking up these bouquets is that they are not cheap. Real flowers may actually be cheaper. I found a few that were $500+ and one that was even $1200. So, unless you are rolling in the dough, or just want to splurge, these may just be some good ideas that you can learn from. Sorry vendors, I know that doesn’t help your sales.

As always, if you want to check out the Etsy shop for each bouquet, just click on the picture.

Do you know anyone that has done bouquets like this? If so, please send me a picture!

PostHeaderIcon Etsy Find Fridays: Here Comes the Bride…

I  love when there are events in my life that help my nail down a topic for Etsy Find Fridays.

But before I spill the beans, let’s thank our friend WriteMeg! for starting this awesome meme!

This week’s topic is brought to you by my cousin’s wedding. My little flower Andrea is getting married tomorrow. Today we are decorating and doing the last minute preps and making sure my dress still fits. I probably shouldn’t have waited until the day before.

But anywho, for today’s Etsy Find Fridays, we are going check out a hodge podge of wedding novelties. I love this stuff and wish I would have had some when I got married.

Isn’t this stuff cute? Did you have any keepsakes like this from your big day? I have a handkerchief that was my great grandmother’s and my mom had it embroidered with our names and wedding date.

As always, click on the picture to head over to the Etsy website.

PostHeaderIcon The First Anniversary

If you would’ve told me five years ago that in 2010 I would have been married a year, I would have laughed at you, as would have everyone who knew me. Now, celebrating a year a marriage, I can’t imagine my life any other way.

When it came to buying my husband a present, it didn’t take me long to pick something. He’s really into golf right now and since the first year’s gift is paper, I got him a gift card for a couple games of golf, in the form of a paper certificate.

Earlier this week, we talked about what we were going to get each other and I told him I got him something paper and what the price range was. Let me tell you that my husband is the best gift buyer in the world. My anniversary gifts were:

Even though it is only October, I have already started looking for Christmas presents. I knew I wanted a camera, and after a lot of research by my husband and myself, I have decided on the Canon Rebel XS. So, this gift is very fitting. It gives me plenty of time to do read up on how to take great pictures before I actually get my camera.

My other gift:

I have been really into the baking the past couple of years. I have dabbled in cookies and almost perfected the art of cupcakes. But now, I am ready to expand my horizons. I’m hoping to soon be proficient in cakes and maybe even pies…. maybe!

Aren’t these great “paper” gifts for our first anniversary? If you are married, did you stay traditional with the paper gift?

Here’s a list of traditional gifts for each anniversary:
1. Paper
2. Cotton
3. Leather
4. Fruit and Flowers
5. Wood
6. Candy
7. Copper and Wool
8. Bronze
9. Pottery
10. Tin
11. Steel
12. Silk
13. Lace
14. Ivory
15. Crystal
20. China
25. Silver
30. Pearl
35. Coral
40. Ruby
45. Sapphire
50. Gold
55. Emerald
60 and up. Diamond

Maybe we can replace diamond with one of the fruit or candy ones… :)

Click here to see a list of more modern gifts. We are very traditional, so I imagine we will stick with this list, unless we need something of course. I’ve heard an anniversary is the best time to get things like washers and dryers!

Speaking of tradition…. we kept our top tier of our wedding cake. I ate a very small piece and I think my husband pretended to, but I’m not too sure if he actually swallowed!

PostHeaderIcon Best Guest Book Ever

So my mom and her friend were geniuses when it came to the wedding. All of their ideas were so creative, even down to the guest book. My mom said she looked everywhere for something to match our colors, which were black and gold. She wanted something classy, but simple. She looked at all the wedding and craft stores and couldn’t find anything.

So when she and her friends were on a girls trip to the mall, they decided to hit up borders, where they hit the jackpot. They found this:

Isn’t it cool? Nice little leather book. The pages have gold around the edges. It’s very fitting. And yes, you can see on the front, mom had our names and the wedding date put on in gold.

And on the inside, for the first 30 or so pages, she had the art teacher at her school write Name and Address in pretty handwriting.

Guest Book: Inside

After the first 30 pages, she left the rest blank. She knows that I like to write and thought it would be cool if I used it to write about our marriage from the beginning. As much as I do love to write, I am bad about writing in these. I wrote in it the day she gave it to me, but haven’t since then. I need to get in there and write everything down while it’s still fresh in my memory.
