Teaser Tuesday: Falling Under

Who doesn’t love when you start a book and fall in love with a character on page 1? Who also doesn’t love when you find a line that you love so much, you have to do a Teaser Tuesday post about it after a few months hiatus?

I found both of those for this week’s Teaser in Falling Under by Gwen Hayes.

Pg1: I’d been reading well past a reasonable hour, the white eyelet quilt tented over my iPhone to block any escaping light even though my father was already tucked away in bed dreaming of new ways to make me safer.

Ahhh it’s time for Teaser Tuesday hosted by Should Be Reading. You are supposed to grab your book, open a random page and pick two random sentences. I am compulsive for that. I choose two sentences that are going to make you 1. want to read the book and 2. come back and read my review! So, today’s tease is from The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson.

Pg 94: “I want to buy a year of your life. Give you a job. The salary is better than any offer you’ll ever get in your life. I will pay you 200,000 kronor a month — that’s 2.4 million kronor if you accept and stay a whole year.”

I’m sure you are wondering two things with this tease:
1. What is the job?
2. How much money is that in America?

I will not answer the first one, you have to read the book. But the second one I will. 2.4 million kronor = $360,307. Would you accept a job for that much money? I guess you’d have to know the job first, which again means you have to read the book

I was actually ready to quit this book the first two days I read it. But then, when I got to the third, and got about 75 pages in, it picked up drastically and now I am taking peeks every chance I get.

This week’s Teaser Tuesday comes from a book that is so far, hard to tease. And it’s not because of great lines, because there are many, but you know the line you want, and you know exactly what you want it to say, but there are some days, no matter how long you look, you can’t find that one particular line that sums it up and drags you in.

Yes, I know, shame on me for not following the rules and just opening my book and picking a sentence. I just can’t do it. What if I pick a sentence that says, “The sky sure is blue today.” Um… would you read it? No.

But if I chose this:

Pg 9: But Kat already knew about honor. She’d grown up with her own set of rules. And the first rule of Katarina Bishop’s family was simple: Don’t get caught.

See, that’s a little better right? But not perfect. By the way, this came from Heist Society by Ally Carter. And don’t worry, when I find that one perfect sum-it-up line, I’ll make sure to put it in my review. Wait for it

It’s the holiday season, which means the next few weeks, you can expect me to have teases about my holiday reads. I am going to do my best this month to make sure my teases, as well as my reads are all holiday centered. I just finished The First Love Cookie Club and finding a holiday tease for this one was easy. It comes from page 1!

“Every Christmas Eve from the time she was eight years old, Sarah Collier baked kismet cookies, slept with a handful under her pillow and dreamed of her one true love.”

This week’s Teaser Tuesday comes from Babe in Boyland. What would you do to learn about the inner workings of the male brain? I think Natalie has a great plan, but of course it raises some questions of her own.

Pg 83 “Why do I never meet boys like that when I’m a girl? The thought of living in close proximity to such a fine specimen fills me with equal parts horror and giddiness.”
