On My Bookshelf: 1/15/12
On My Bookshelf is my own little deviation of In My Mailbox by Kristi at The Story Siren. The only thing that’s different is the title because I am super OCD and since I don’t get my books in a “mailbox” I had to change it up a little. I know, I’m a freak!
Anyway, I got this book last week, but wasn’t at work to pick it up, so we’re posting it this week. And I’m really excited about it.
It’s A Perfect Storm by Lori Foster. It’s the fourth book in the Men Who Walk the Edge of Honor series. I read Trace of Fever for review last year and loved it. I am normally very strict about reading all the books in order, but ended up skipping 1 and 3 and I liked the one I read so much, I don’t care. These men are very swoon worthy and I can’t wait to read this one.
From Goodreads:
He never saw her coming…
Spencer Lark already knows too many secrets about Arizona Storm, including the nightmare she survived and her resulting trust issues. But in order to expose a smuggling ring—and continue avenging his own tragic past—the bounty hunter reluctantly agrees to make Arizona a decoy. Yet nothing has equipped him for her hypnotic blend of fragility and bravery, or for the protective instincts she stirs in him.
Arizona wants to reclaim her life, which means acting as bait to lure the enemy into a trap. Sure it’s dangerous, especially with a partner as distractingly appealing as Spencer. But as their plan—and their chemistry—shifts into high gear, Arizona may discover there’s an even greater risk in surrendering her heart to a hero…
Yes, if you can tell from the picture, I did get this book as part of a blog tour and got a cool badge to go along with it. I love these little guys and am trying to find a place to show them off. I may get a cork board and start sticking them on there.
The only bad thing about this…if you are looking forward to this review, you are going to have to wait a while. The book doesn’t come out until April and my day on the tour isn’t until April 5. I know I won’t be able to wait that long to read this book. I may have to drop a hint or two, or use this as teaser Tuesday for the next few months to give you guys a preview!
This is kind of off base with this post, but since I went and grabbed the link to Lori Foster’s website (above), I’ve been reading her FAQ section. If you are an aspiring author, let me suggest reading about her. She has published 100+ books. She wrote several in the five years between when she started and when she got published. It’s very inspiring. Lately, I’ve been feeling the itch to write and wanting to get back into it, and I need to just sit down and do it and quit talking about it. Even if it’s not a full-time profession for me one day (which I’m still not giving up faith on), I still would love to have my writing out there. The ideas are swirling around in my head and it’s time to get them on paper. For some, it comes quickly and easy, but for Lori, it took some time and she never gave up. I could continue gushing about Lori, but I’ll let you head to her website and read for yourself!

On My Bookshelf: 1/8/12
Welcome to On My Bookshelf, a little later on a Sunday than normal, but better late than never, right? On My Bookshelf is a little variation from In My Mailbox brought to you by Kristi at The Story Siren.
This week I got some good ones off NetGalley. I am also told one came for me in the mail at work on Friday, but I was out of town. I’ll have to add it to next week’s stash.
Here’s this week’s goods:
Interior designer Deva Dunne’s latest project comes to a screeching halt when blood on the carpet leads her to the body of her client, an exotic dancer with a mysterious past. But the murdered woman is not the only resident of the posh beachfront condominium with secrets, and investigating officer Lieutenant Victor Rossi considers them all suspects.
Though wary of working in the killer’s midst, Deva continues decorating the unit for the new owner. When she stumbles upon clues that might help crack the case, she can’t resist doing a little digging of her own, despite Rossi’s orders to quit meddling. Now, she’s juggling the investigation, her career and sexy neighbor Simon Yaeger, who seems interested in more than her etchings.
Deva can’t help but be flattered by all the male attention—that is, until she realizes the killer has designs on her, too…
hay Brandenberger is raising her daughter in Moose Creek, Montana on her childhood ranch, nestled against the Yellowstone River. Despite her hard work, she can’t seem to keep her head above water-and now the bank is threatening to foreclose. She prays for a miracle, but the answer she receives is anything but.
Having agreed to play the bride in the Founders Day wedding reenactment, Shay is mortified to be greeted at the end of the aisle by none other than Travis McCoy, her high school sweetheart-the man who left her high and dry for fame and fortune on the Texas rodeo circuit.
Then the unthinkable happens. Thanks to a well-meaning busy body and an absent minded preacher, the wedding reenactment results in a legal marriage. But before Shay can say annulment, Travis comes up with a crazy proposal. If she refuses his offer, she’ll lose her home. But if she accepts, she may lose her heart.
Shay isn’t sure if the recent events are God’s will or just a preacher’s blunder. Will trusting her heart to the man who once shattered it be the worst mistake of her life? Or could their marriage be the best accident that ever happened?
Grace has taken care of her widowed father her entire adult life and the ornery old goat has finally died. She has no job, no skills and very little money, and has heard her father’s prediction that no decent man would ever want her so often she accepts it as fact.
But she does have a big old house on Lawyers Row in Peacock, Tennessee. She opens a rooming house and quickly gathers a motley crew of tenants: Promise, Grace’s best friend since kindergarten, who’s fighting cancer; Maxie, an aging soap opera actress who hasn’t lost her flair for the dramatic; Jonah, a sweet, gullible old man with a crush on Maxie.
And Dillon, Grace’s brother’s best friend, who stood her up on the night of her senior prom and has regretted it ever since. Dillon rents Grace’s guest house for the summer and hopes to make up for lost time and past hurts—but first, he’ll have to convince Grace that she’s worth loving…

We are a week away from Christmas so of course, this week, I did some major holiday reading downloading. But before I get there, let me give props to Kristi at The Story Siren for starting this meme. I just changed the title a little to more match my OCD reading needs.
So, back to the books this week… I think I was a little optimistic. I downloaded not one, not two, but three Christmas themed books to my Nook, courtesy NetGalley. I am now a week away from Christmas and still haven’t finished one of the three books I downloaded. Better quit stalling on the blog and get to reading huh???
So, here’s my list to get me prepped for Christmas:

Christmas has never brought out the best in the MacDougal family. Still, year after year, they gather together in the Blue Ridge Mountains to try to make the season merry and bright. But this year is an especially strained one, with Shayne’s impending divorce, Morwenna’s slavish devotion to work and Bobby’s reluctance to face what life has to offer. They’ve never felt less like a family.
Then, in the midst of a snowy sibling shouting match, a mysterious stranger appears. He could be a criminal, a madman—or something far more unexpected. Despite their fears and the growing danger in the dark woods around them, the MacDougals take a leap of faith. But when another stranger arrives on the mountainside, they don’t know which of them to believe. One of these men can’t be trusted. And one is about to bring Christmas into their hearts.
Dating Matthew O’Brien—a playboy and a younger man—cost Laila Riley her career and her parents’ respect. A high price, even for love—and when Laila decides it was just a fling, she breaks it off, despite Matthew’s objections.
But the O’Brien family has other ideas, and they conspire to get Laila to join them on a Dublin holiday. It’s a great time to get away from it all, but Laila has reservations about the trip. Matthew’s bound to be there, and she’s far from immune. What if she can’t resist temptation?
Meanwhile, the O’Briens are in an uproar over matriarch Nell’s unexpected romance with an old flame. Will she follow her heart despite the risks? And will Laila discover that some risks are actually once-in-a-lifetime opportunities?

Two magnolias-and-mistletoe-inspired holiday stories from the bestselling author of more than thirty romantic, humorous novels.Laughter and love combine in Sandra Hill’s BLUE CHRISTMAS—with a touch of Elvis magic. Wealthy Wall Street businessman Clayton Jessup III has only one reason for arriving in Memphis a few days before Christmas—to sell off his inheritance, an embarrassingly kitschy hotel named The Blue Suede Suites. His feelings for the Land of Elvis are dark: his long-dead Memphis mother abandoned him and his dad when Clay was a baby, and now Clay wants nothing to do with a southern legacy that couldn’t be more different from his sophisticated big-city life. But then he steps in trouble—literally—when he confronts the bizarre group of Elvis impersonators who’ve set up a living Nativity scene on his property. One slip of a wingtip in some sheep poop lands Clay in the care of gorgeous Annie Fallon, whose big-haired Elvis-girlfriend get-up can’t hide her wholesome, sexy appeal. Annie and her brothers have set up the Nativity scene to earn some badly needed money for their struggling dairy farm. The last thing she needs is an angry Yankee with a concussion and a come-hither smile . . .In JINX CHRISTMAS, sexy NASCAR star Lance Caslow makes a last-ditch effort to win back his ex-wife Brenda. Five years ago, his reckless pursuit of racetrack fame tore them apart and broke Brenda’s heart. Now Lance shows up in Louisiana determined to make things right this Christmas, not just for himself and Brenda, but for their young daughter, Patti. He’s got his work cut out for him, and desperate measures are needed. Lance will do anything to prove he’s worthy of Brenda’s trust again—even join the Cajun Christmas show starring a raucous Cajun family whose menfolk dance for charity events in little more than a smile . . .
What did you guys get this week?? Anyone else doing a little holiday reading??
On My Bookshelf: 12/11
On My Bookshelf is my little spin on In My Mailbox, by Kristi at The Story Siren. Every Sunday, you share what books you got in the mail. I don’t do much different, just changed the name a little, to match my book gathering. I’m uber OCD and don’t get mail in my mailbox, so I had a hard time leaving the title that. Yes, I’m a little cooky, it’s ok, I know.
I have been so busy with getting things ready for the holidays that I have not done as much reading as I like during the holidays and haven’t even read a holiday themed book. Did you gasp? I did when I wrote this. I have listened to one, but not read a single one on my holiday reading list. I’m about 100 pages away from finishing the book I am on and then I will hopefully have time for one or two Christmas themed books.
But this week, I got one that I’m pumped about…even if I can’t talk much about it until February.
This week, I got The Legacy of Eden. But not only did I get the books, I also got a sweet Blog Tour badge. I’ve never gotten one of those before. Will it be weird if I wear it to work? Probably. They all ask me all the time how I find time to read so much, the nice way of asking, “Don’t you have a life?”.
So here’s the summary for The Legacy of Eden:
For generations, Aurelia was the crowning glory of more than three thousand acres of Iowa farmland and golden cornfields. The estate was a monument to matriarch Lavinia Hathaway’s dream to elevate the family name—no matter what relative or stranger she had to destroy in the process. It was a desperation that wrought the downfall of the Hathaways—and the once-prosperous farm.
Now the last inhabitant of the decaying old home has died—alone. None of the surviving members of the Hathaway family want anything to do with the farm, the land or the memories.
Especially Meredith Pincetti. Now living in New York City, for seventeen years Lavinia’s youngest grandchild has tried to forget everything about her family and her past. But with the receipt of a pleading letter, Meredith is again thrust into conflict with the legacy that destroyed her family’s once-great name.
Back at Aurelia, Meredith must confront the rise and fall of the Hathaway family…and her own part in their mottled history.
This book is set to be released at the end of January and the tour is taking place in February. I know I can’t wait that long to read this book. You’ll just have to stand by for the review.

On My Bookshelf: 10/30/11
After a major binge at the local book sale, I’ve been on a buying hiatus. I am running out of room for new books, with two book shelves stuffed to the gills, and my shoe shelf now overtaken by books. I am trying to be space conservative, but let’s face it, I need books, even if they are going to sit there for months because I keep buying new ones. One of my New Year’s Resolutions for 2011 was to “Read What I Want to Read”. I have definitely done that this year, but for 2012, I think I’m going to make it “Read What’s On Your Bookshelf”. I have really awesome books on there. I bought them all for a reason, I just need to get around to them.
I also have been out of the book world for the past couple of weeks because I’ve been working on my knitting and opening of my Etsy shop. A post on those are coming soon, don’t you worry.
But this post is about books, nonetheless. Kristi at The Story Siren started In My Mailbox, which I transformed to fit my OCD to On My Bookshelf.
This week I got one book. As I said, I’ve been staying away from all the shiny, pretty covers, but when Cindy at Princess Bookie started a massive Twitter giveaway, I couldn’t contain myself. Earlier this week, she listed a book and said the first, or third, or tenth person to tweet me gets the book. I won one! Woo
I won Swoon at Your Own Risk by Sydney Salter and got the book just a couple of days later in a package from Sydney herself (Thank you very much!)
You’d think Polly Martin would have all the answers when it comes to love—after all, her grandmother is the famous syndicated advice columnist Miss Swoon. But after a junior year full of dating disasters, Polly has sworn off boys. Now she’s just trying to survive her summer job at Wild Waves western-themed water park (under the supervision of ex #3 Sawyer Holmes) and focus on herself for once. So Polly is happy when she finds out Grandma is moving in for the summer –think of all the great advice she’ll get.
But Miss Swoon turns out to be a man-crazy sexagenarian! How can Polly stop herself from falling for Xander Cooper, the suddenly-hot skateboarder who keeps showing up at Wild Waves, when Grandma is picking up guys at the bookstore and flirting with the dishwasher repairman? And why, despite her best intentions, does Polly keep letting boys get in the way of her relationship with her best friend Jane?
No advice column in the world can prepare Polly for what happens when Jane convinces her to go on a group camping trip with three too many ex-boyfriends and the tempting Xander. Polly is forced to face her feelings and figure out if she can be in love—and still be herself. After all, true happiness doesn’t come from a boy. It comes from within. Well, maybe it a little bit comes from a boy . . .
I think this sounds like a super cute book and can’t wait to dive it. And no, it won’t meet the demise of the many others on my bookshelf that have falled into the black hole. It’s going on my TO READ ASAP list (yes, I have one of those, on a post-it note to keep me in line for reviews).
What did you get this week?
