Today’s Musing Monday topic is about taking notes.

Do you take notes while reading – either for your reviews or for yourself? How/where do you make these notes?

Yes, I am an avid note taker. I have been since I was little. I like to get every single word when I’m taking notes so I don’t forget a thing. There was a time when I was reading that I would remember saying “Oh, I need to get this in my review” and would forget. So after that point, I started jotting things down as a I read.

I put them as notes in my memo pad on my phone, then I can do it everywhere and can pull them up wherever I am doing my review. I write down different parts of the book that I like and don’t like. I write down page numbers with some of my favorite lines so that I can use them for Teaser Tuesdays.

When my blog was on WordPress, I had the WordPress app on my phone and could actually start my blog on my phone, send it to my account and have it waiting for me next time I logged on. I deleted the app when I moved my blog, but it was very useful and cool.

Doing tonight’s Musing Monday from my work computer. Ours broke and we aren’t getting a new one until Thursday.

Today’s topic is the 24 Hour Read-a-thon. Are you planning on participating? Have you made any preparations for the event? Veterans, are there any tips you’d like to share with the newbies?

I just found out about this a couple of weeks ago, and any other weekend, I would probably take full advantage of it. This weekend however is my husband’s 30th birthday. I think he may get up and go hunting for a while, so I may dedicate my morning to it, but I will most likely spend some time with my mom and get some pictures developed at Wal-Mart.

I do, however, fully intend to take part in the next one and I’ve been checking out other lists so I can know what books I should put on my list for when I participate!

I always look at Musing Monday and stew on it for a while before I decide to finally write.

This week’s question is:Do you keep a book wish list, either on paper, Amazon/etc, or via a book database site (Shelfari, GoodReads, LibraryThing)? If yes, do you share this list with others (especially coming up to Christmas)?

I started keeping a list on Borders.com when I really got into reading. It started as a couple pages of books, but then it got serious. Now I have HUNDREDS of books on there. I admit I haven’t added books in a while. It’s so overwhelming right now, I get lost in it.

On Goodreads.com, I keep a list of books that are already on my shelf that I need to read. You can also find it on the right side of my blog.

I do have a list of books in my head that I know I want.  A couple new series, a few follow ups to books I have now and just some randoms. Normally on my birthday and for Christmas, I give everyone a list of different books so no one buys the same ones :)

Do you list????

Musing MondaysSo it’s not officially Monday anymore, at least not in West Virginia. When I looked at this today, I didn’t think I wanted to respond, but then I saw other people’s responses and decided I wanted to take part.

Today’s question is: Do you listen to music while reading? Does this change if you’re reading in or out of your house? Do you have a preference of music for such occasions?

I hate other sound when I am reading lol. I like to do most of my reading in my bed where it is silent. Or I like to be in the bookstore, or outside. Natural sounds I’m ok with, but music drives me insane. I try to block things out and some things I’ve mastered – like people at work when I’m trying to write. But I still have a hard time sometimes focusing on my book when the TV is on. And I really can’t concentrate when the TV is on AND the computer sound is on. At that time, I normally just put my book down.

I’ve always been this way though. Even when I was young, I’d have to close my door and be by myself to study or read. If there were other people around, I never got any work done. I’ve never listened to music, but when people at the library in college would crank theirs and I had to listen to it a few tables away, it would drive me nuts!

What about you? Sorry for my rant :)

I’ve been debating doing Musing Mondays for a while now. I’ve recently started Teaser Tuesday and Booking Through Thursday, but when I saw today’s topic, I had to respond.

Musing Mondays_(BIG)[5]The 8/24 Musing Monday topic: Do you prefer to read stand-alone books, or books in series? Do you stick with a series the whole way through or stop after the first instalment? Are there any particular series you enjoy?(question courtesy of Elena)

I think by looking at the list of books I’ve read in the past year, you can tell I’m a series girl. When I meet a character, I like to stay with  them and keep learning about them.

I’ve read all of the Janet Evanovich Stephanie Plum novels but one. This year I’ve also read Son of a Witch, which is the second in the Wicked Years Series. I’ve read the second book in the Poseur series. I also read A Job to Kill For which is the second in the Lacy Field Mystery Series.

I read the first 12 Plum books one after the other, but since then, I’ve slowed down a little. On the other ones, I normally just read them when I get to them. I rarely ever go to the book store when a book is released, even if it is next in my series.

My favorite series is the Plum Series. Check out my book list and I’m sure you will be able to tell.

Every now and then I like to read a single novel to get my mind off things, but in the end, I think I’ll always come back to a series!
