Musing Monday is brought to you by Just One More Page.

This week’s question is: Where do you keep any books borrowed from friends or the library? Do they live with your own collection, or do you keep them separate? Do you monitor them in any way?

I just recently got my first library book in years. I immediately read it, so it didn’t have a chance to mingle with the others, but I do have a place for borrowed books. I have a book shelf just for books “to be read”. The first shelf holds books I’ve bought. The second shelf contains my Sookie Stackhouse series as well at the Private series. On this shelf, I also put books I’ve won, received from an author/publisher or books I borrow from people.

I try to take extra care of books that I win/borrow/get from library. Unless I love it, I am getting into the habit of hosting giveaways for books I’ve won or ones I’ve received from the publisher. I am trying to keep my shelf space open for ones that I can’t live without :)

Musing Monday is brought to you by Just One More Page.

I haven’t participated in these in a while. There were a couple that I didn’t have answers to, then I just kind of took a break. Now I’m getting used to my schedule and will be back to bloggy business soon.

Today’s question: When is it inappropriate to read in front of others? Is it ever appropriate?

I take a book with me everywhere I go and whenever I get a chance, I read. I read at the hospital, getting my oil changed, during lunch break, you get the picture. I think it’s common sense when it is appropriate to and not to read. You obviously shouldn’t read in a meeting or if you should be paying attention to something or someone.

I think a better topic would be, when it is and is not appropriate to talk to someone who is reading. I was at the bookstore a few months back, minding my own business and the guy beside me kept talking to me while I was reading. I kept trying to end the conversation by putting my nose back in my book, but he kept trying to talk. Mahhh I JUST WANT TO READ!

Musing MondayToday’s Musing Monday is about the holidays!

With the holiday season now upon us, have you left any hint – subtle or otherwise – for books family and friends might buy you for Christmas? Do you like to receive books, or do you prefer certificates so you can choose your own?

I normally don’t make a generic list and tell people to choose. I have a list of 3-4 books for my brother to get me for Christmas at my mom’s house and dad’s house. I usually take this time to update my series. I also have a list for my family at my grandparents house. With this, I will  normally do a series if I can find a box set. I don’t really like surprises when it comes to books. I’d rather know what I am getting.

I am always up for a gift card if someone doesn’t know what to buy me. I’d much rather get a gift card than a generic gift!

What about you?

Musing Monday Today’s Musing Monday post asks: Does your house have a communal bookshelf? If not, is your bookshelf centrally located so everyone has access to it?

We have a bookshelf on our entertainment center that Michael and I have put our school books. Michael has some personal reading on these too, but we don’t have the same reading taste, so even though it is a community shelf, I won’t be reading them. I also have a separate little bookshelf I had in college with other school books on it. For some reason, I thought I needed to keep them :)

In my bedroom, I have my personal bookshelves. I have a three story shelf on top of one of my dressers and I also have a stand alone shelf. Michael doesn’t like the same books that I do, so for now, it’s ok that they aren’t up for community access. I like having the shelf in my room so that if I finish a book before bed, I can easily get another one without being too loud!

Musing Monday

Today’s Musing Monday is about social reading.

How much of your reading do you share with others outside of blogging? Do you belong to a book or library club? Do you trade books with friends? Do you tell others what you are reading?

I talk to random people about my books if I really like them. This normally includes my parents, my husband and maybe a random co-worker. I like to talk, so whoever is around to listen, I’ll share!

I am not part of a book club, but at work, we’ve talked about doing one. Everyone there knows that I read and blog about my books. Co-workers thought it’d be cool if I would hold an online book club. Read a book monthly, have an online chat, then blog about the book on our website. I think it’d be a cool idea, but I’m not so sure our viewers would like the books I read ;)

I have gotten a few books from friends, but normally I just buy. A guy at work gave me The Historian and I loved it! If anyone wants to let me borrow a book after that great experience, I’m more than willing. He has offered me a few more. I should take him up on it. The only other time I’ve borrowed has been from my dad. He always gets the Nicholas Sparks books and lends them to me after he’s done.

What about you?
