PostHeaderIcon AnnAlysis: Dead and Gone

The vamps have come out to the public and seem to be doing ok. Yes, they get scrutinized and don’t have all the freedoms that living beings do, but it’s better than being in the closet, or casket (laugh, it was a joke). So, the Weres decide they want to be out of the closet too. They make a big announcement and so themselves to the world on national tv. It doesn’t take long for the ish to hit the fan in Sookie’s world after the big reveal. One of the werepanthers is murdered in the parking lot of Merlotts. That’s just the beginning of the bad news. There’s a war forming between the good and the bad guys in the fae world, with Sookie’s grandpa leading the good side. And there’s nothing less than a target on Sookie’s head. Get Sookie, get gramps, end the war. Oh, but you know Sookie, she isn’t going down fighting. And did I forget to mention there’s a little marriage agreement in this one? Yes, there is!

It’s been a while since I read a TrueBlood book, but it’s always easy to catch back up to where I left off. There’s been so many characters and people in and out of the 9 books, I know I can’t remember them all, but Harris does a good job of reminding us their importance.

One of the things that I love about Harris is that she always bring something new to the table with these books. In the first one there were vampires, then werepeople, then fairies. Now, the fairy world is starting to come more to light, but honestly, I’m not sure how much I love it. I can dig the vamps and the weres, but fairies and goblins and demons, they all start to confuse me about what they do and don’t do and what the difference is. I hope she doesn’t go far down this path. Stick with the vamps. They are sexy and aged, like a fine wine!

I give Dead and Gone 4bookmarks.

Kari got this book for Christmas

PostHeaderIcon Booking Through Christmas

While we all love the clothes and jewelry and shoes and electronics at Christmas, there are a select few of us that live for the bookish gifts we will receive.

Every year I say this, but this year I hit the jackpot on the bookie gifts.

Here are the books I got:

What I normally do at Christmas is pick up a bunch of books I want and give them to my brother to give to me. Good deal, right? This year, I stuck with books from a series that I need. I love all of these series’ and can’t wait to read all of them.

I also got some awesome bookmarks this Christmas:

I’ve posted before about magnetic bookmarks. These are lifesavers for me. I always throw my book in my bag and go. With a regular bookmark, I am normally trying to remember which page I was on, because it’s almost always guaranteed to fall out. But with magnetic bookmarks, I never lose them, and I can put them on the line where I finished so I know exactly where to start again.

Now, I know I just talked about regular bookmarks and my lack of love for them, but how awesome is my wooden bookmark on the left? I got this at the Bob Evans Farm Festival this year. There was a booth with hundreds of bookmarks, each with a different design cut out of it. As soon as we found the booth, my mom and I started searching for one that would suit me. We were almost at the end and giving up until we found the on with the state of West Virginia, my new home state. I love it! (The state and the bookmark)

I didn’t take a picture of my gift cards, but I got so many gift cards, I have no idea what I’m going to do with myself. Along with my friend WriteMeg! , I am going to make 2011 the year I read what I want. I’m not changing much about my habits, but if I want to read something this year, I’m not going to hesitate. I’m going to jump on it! So, for me this year, gift cards are amazing! I got $100 worth of gift cards from Borders this year and $50 worth from Barnes and Noble (for my Nook). I have no idea where I am even going to start with these!

I have already made my first, after Christmas purchase for the year. My husband and I went shopping the day after Christmas, which I normally avoid. We both got some pretty good deals, but the best deal was this:

I follow Ally on Twitter and have wanted to read this book forever. But I am very reluctant about buying books. I have two bookshelves full at my house and am probably the biggest tight wad you’ll ever meet. So, when I was scanning the sale books at Borders this weekend, I jumped on this copy of Heist Society. It was on sale for $5.99. I figured I had enough in gift cards to make this purchase. Little did I know that I had $5 in Borders Bucks, so I ended up paying $1.05 for this hardcover copy. I was ecstatic and my husband was laughing hysterically. He asked if they knew me by name in Borders lol

So, as you can see, I’m extremely happy with my Christmas goods. What did you get this year????

Favorite Book:
This is a hard month to choose. I really liked both of the Sookie Stackhouse books I read – but I also gave 5 bookmarks to Invitation Only. I’ve been giving a lot of bookmarks the past couple of months. I’m finally reading a lot of the books I’d been asking for :)

Least Favorite Book:
I will probably say that Dewey (although I haven’t reviewed it yet) is my least favorite book. I enjoyed the read because I like cats, even though I am allergic and can’t have one, it’s just not the type of book I normally read. I am more of a fiction girl. I like the drama. Yes, Dewey did bring drama, but towards the end, I had a hard time sticking with it.

Goals for March:
I hope this month to finish the Private series and start on the Jessica Darling series. They are on my shelf just looking at me. I also have a book from a publisher that I just got. It’s a little out of my realm, but I am excited to try it.

PostHeaderIcon AnnAlysis: Definitely Dead

Release: May 2006

This is the 6th installment of the Sookie Stackhouse series and finally, Sookie gets to use her ability to help humans and it’s the ones who have doubted her are asking for her help. But that’s not the big picture in this book. Her cousin Hadley, who was turned to a vampire, has died and Sookie has been named her heir. Sookie has to go to New Orleans to clean out her place, but this also means she has to meet up with the Queen. Hadley had a special relationship with the Queen that ultimately led to her death. As if this isn’t enough of Sookie’s plate, some weres are also after her.

Sookie now has to solve 3 problems. I somewhat solved one, but the others got past me.

I liked this book because it always kept me questioning what was around the next corner. I never knew if it was a vamp, a witch, a were, a tiger or a demon. Yes, demons are introduced in this book.

One part of the plot that I hated was a little secret comes out about Bill. I am not going to spill it, because I hate reading and writing spoilers, but it definitely changes my opinion for him. Until now, everything he has done to hurt Sookie, I’ve been able to rationalize with, as Sookie had … somewhat.

Oh, and must I mention there’s a new hottie in Sookie’s life? Let’s just say he’s extremely cat like :)

I give Definitely Dead 4 bookmarks.

Other Sookie Stackhouse Books:
1. Dead Until Dark
2. Living Dead in Dallas
3. Club Dead
4. Dead to the World
5. Dead as a Doornail

PostHeaderIcon Snowy Reading

I work about 44 miles away from where I live. So when the weather is bad, I can’t always make it home. This was the case last week. Monday morning before work, I packed my bag with 3 days of clothes. Luckily, that was all I needed.

Monday night I got a hotel room, the other two, I stayed with a coworker.

Knowing me, clothes and toiletries weren’t all I packed. Of course, I packed books. 5 to be exact. I was almost finished with one when I left for work on Monday and I wanted to be prepared.

Here’s my stash:

I actually didn’t get as much reading done as I thought I would. Monday I finished one and started another, but all week, I was battling a runny nose and scratchy throat. If I could’ve spent as much time reading as I did blowing my nose, I probably would’ve finished two or three. :)

Progress: I finished One Amazing Thing and started Definitely Dead which I plan on finishing today.

We’re supposed to get another round of snow starting tonight, so I’ll have to pack my bags again. I got The Time Traveler’s Wife this week, so I’ll probably start it and take all the ones pictured above… just in case!
