Cover Wars: The Legacy of Eden
Yay! Time for one of my favorite features on my blog. I love reading books and I try to be very open to which books I pick and choose, but I’m the girliest reader. I am definitely guilty of choosing a book by it’s cover. If I’m walking through the bookstore or even perusing NetGalley, I tend to cover shop. Once I find a cover I like, then I’ll read the summary. I like pretty books, I can’t help it.
I started doing Cover Wars when I ran across a book that had several cover options. This can be because of changes made from the time a pre-published book is sent out until the publication day or because there are different covers for different countries. When it comes to the book The Legacy of Eden (review below), both play a role.
Let me show you the covers for this book.
Ok so here are the covers. Top left is the US cover, top right is the UK cover and the big one is the galley cover, which is what I got.
These covers are all so different. Before I saw the UK cover, my decision for this book was easy. I absolutely love the cover on the book that I got. I think that this book is so much more about the house and land than anything else. It always goes back to that. The big cover, it just speaks to me. It’s a big, old, white farm house. It’s intriguing. I want to go inside and learn more. So between the US covers, I like the galley version best.
But then, you throw the UK version into the mix…It has the same big house, the same intrigue. I keep going back and forth, but I keep losing myself in the pre-publication US cover. I like the UK cover and it is probably my favorite of the three before I read the book, but after reading it, I think it’s just a little bright for this story. Don’t get me wrong, it’s beautiful, it’s just not what I imagined. The galley version is exactly how I see this house. And I think the colors of the cover really are the finishing touches. This story is beautiful, but it’s rough around the edges. There is so much pain in this book, the tint on this cover pulls me in and I feel like it lets me know there may be some stormy skies ahead.
What do you think of these covers? Which one speaks to you?
