An assassin takes three shots in Georgia. The President of the US in wounded, his best friend and a Secret Service agent are killed. Two days later, a man commits suicide, leaving a note admitting to the crime. But something doesn’t seem right with the Secretary of Homeland Security. He knows of a letter that came in just days before the shooting and thinks it was intentionally overlooked by the Secret Service Director.

That’s where Joe DeMarco comes in. Joe is the Speaker of the House’e go-to, under the radar guy when he needs things done that he doesn’t want people to know are being done. Joe was a lawyer at one time and soon realizes that he may be in over his head with this assassination. But he goes digging and starts to uncover a crazy, criminal past and this assassination is just the tip of the iceburg that may bring down one of the country’s biggest, secretive bad guys. But hopefully he can survive when the secret comes out what his mission is.

As I continue to do this book blog, I am amazed to see how my reading preferences change over the years. At one time, I would have never picked up a mystery thriller like this, with fear of having nightmares (don’t judge), but now, it’s what I gravitate towards. I have shyed away from the YA genre, a little at a time and am going towards the spicier, thriller reads. I’ve also been reading a lot of books lately with male leading rolDon’t get me wrong, I still have my favorite series and am open to any suggestions. Who knows what mood I’ll be in, but I keep craving ones that are going to blow my mind through the entire book and this was one of those reads.

In this book, originally release in 2005, Lawson keeps you up on the guessing game, trying to figure out who pulled the trigger and who was behind the assassination. But one thing about this book that I liked, that drives  me nuts on other mystery books is that I didn’t have to wait until the very end to know who was behind this. I like books that keep me guessing, but I admire an author who can unveil the bad guy and still keep the book moving.

I give The Inside Ring 5 bookmarks and Joe DeMarco has landed himself on my TBR list!

Hey cool, I’m glad you liked this one. I haven’t read Mike Lawson yet because my mom stole the one book of his I had from my guest room. (I said it was okay, so I guess it wasn’t technically theft.) But I like Mike – I’ve met him at a couple of conferences and he’s a really decent guy. So I’m looking forward to picking up one of his novels sometime soon.
