AnnAlysis: Falling Under
Theia is epitome of a girl living a sheltered life. She doesn’t get out much, at least not in real life. One night, that all changes though when she dreams of a burning man. Her dream is so life-like that when the burning man enrolls as a student at her school, she has to pinch herself to see if she’s still dreaming.
Theia has never been much of the dating kind, who can be with a strict father like hers? But she immediately falls for Haden, AKA the burning man. But things keep getting weirder. Her dreams and more real every night and she soon realizes Haden may not be the normal teenage boy.
So then she is faced with the horrible decision for a teen girl. Would you risk your soul for the boy of your dreams?
I instantly fell in love with this book for two reasons and they were both on the first page. 1: Theia was reading her books on her iPhone, under her covers so she wouldn’t get caught by her dad. 2: She lives in Serendipity Falls. Doesn’t that sound like a wonderful place?
*Please don’t read any further if you don not want to read a spoiler*
I normally try really hard not to put spoilers in reviews, but with this one, I’m stuck between a demon and the underworld! I was very intrigued while I was waiting, and waiting and waiting to find out what Haden actually was. Is he a vamp? Nope, he’s a demon. I’ve read a few demon books lately, but still have a hard time understanding what they are and what they do. They confuse me. It obviously didn’t stop me from reading, but I felt like it took forever to find out what Haden actually was. The suspense killed me. I just don’t really feel like the reveal did much though after the build up.
But then, just as quickly as we found out the truth about Haden, the pace of the book picked up drastically with Theia getting into some major trouble and us getting the story from Haden’s point of view. It was a nice little change and I liked it. I love hearing different voices in stories.
A lot of times, I don’t really get attached to anyone but the main characters. That was different for me in this book. There are A LOT of loveable friends in this book that I can’t wait to hear more from. PS – yes, that means I’ve heard there are more to come.
If you are looking for a light, princessy, head in the clouds read, this isn’t it. But what it does give is a point of view from the underworld that isn’t necessarily beautiful, but one that keeps you asking, “What is next?” and “Can I have more?”.
I give Falling Under 4 bookmarks.
