AnnAlysis: The Demon Trapper’s Daughter
If you wonder what will happen to the US if the economy doesn’t turn around, this book may have the answer, if demons start showing up that is. Riley Blackthorn is 17 years old, following in her father’s footsteps as a demon trapper. She doesn’t really get the respect she wants, or thinks she deserves and the only reason she gets any is because of her father’s name. But when tragedy strikes and her father isn’t there to have her back anymore, Riley must make it on her own, proving to everyone that she’s as awesome as her father.
She does have a trick or two up her sleeve, including her father’s notes on a scandal that is going down in the trapper world. This may just be the thing she needs to keep her alive and put her on the map.
In the past couple of years, I’ve learned about witches and wizards, vampires, werewolves, fairies and now demons. What else can be thrown my way? Even though we are adults and don’t use pictures in books, with fictional characters, I wish some drawings were added, just so I know what these danged demons look like. There are descriptions, but for something you’ve never seen before, there are times when a description isn’t enough.
Now, leaving 2nd grade and back to being an adult, this is one of those books where I liked it, but didn’t love it. I’ve been reading a lot of books lately where the heroin is kick-ass. She traps demons for goodness sake and doesn’t give up when her father is killed and his student is wounded. I had to admit I love a strong woman and Riley is definitely one, especially for only being 17. This book was a bit darker than the frilly, pink books I’ve read over the past year, but I liked it. It needed to be dark to give Riley life.
Although I didn’t love this book, I will look for the next book in the series when it comes out. I grew a fondness for Riley and really want to see what happens in her future and watch her grow on her own. I give The Demon Trapper’s Daughter 3 bookmarks.
