Natalie, AKA Dr. Aphrodite has hit a road block with her love column. The girls are taking her advice, but the boys are ready to start throwing stones. She is only telling the girls what they want to hear and isn’t giving advice from a guys point of view. Well, duh, how is she supposed to know how a guy’s mind works? Well that my friends is exactly what Natalie figures out.

She poses as a boy a private, all boys school, in the same town where she attends public school. Her two best friends help her transform into the best boy she can be and she has just one week, to avoid getting caught, to get inside the mind of a guy to find out the basics.

-Why do you act differently around your friends than you do when it’s just us?

Don’t lie! You have wondered the same questions time and time again about the guys in your life and some of you have possibly asked.

Things get tricky for Nat (her boy name) when she lands a room with a stud who opens up to her more than any boy has ever done before. Oh, right, he thinks she’s a dude. So she must answer the questions, not get caught, and find a way to date Emilio when she’s back in Natalie form.

Jody Gehrman did a great job with this book. I love the idea of posing as a boy for a news story. I definitely would have done that, but may not have been able to part with my hair! Boys and girls are always awkward in this stage of the teenage years and Gehrman made me feel that bit of awkwardness, with naked boys in rooms and getting caught in broom closets, without pushing it too far.

Now I have to admit that all throughout this book, I pictured Natalie as Amanda Bynes. I think this was just because this book reminded me of the movie She’s the Man, but it was nice to be able to imagine her/him

This was definitely a quick, cute read. And if you like theater on top of it all, you’ll definitely like this book. I give Babe in Boyland 4 bookmarks.
