AnnAlysis: 17 Again

17 again

I’m a sucker for cute teeny bopper movies and this one so fits the bill. Yes, it’s completely unrealistic, but it was super cute.

Things didn’t quite turn out the way Mike O’Donnell expected. He was the star of the basketball team, close to getting on Syracuse’s team, until his girlfriend gives him a stunner before a major game. Jump forward 18 years to Mike not getting a promotion, but he is getting a divorce. When he wakes up 17 again, he has a chance to become friends with his kids and prove to his wife they should still be together.

This movie is very cute and there were a couple of times when I laughed out loud. Zac Efron is a cutie and I had to tell myself he wasn’t younger than I am the whole time I watched it.

*SPOILER ALERT*
I don’t really have any complaints for this movie, other than the ending. I was glad Mike and Scar got back together, but it’s their sons big chance to show off his moves on the basketball court and they just walk out the door. I’m all about involved parents. No, I don’t mean stage parents, but as much as Mike loved basketball, you’d think he would want to watch his son get his chance.

I think the thing I liked best about the movie, and it wasn’t REALLY part of the movie was at the end when they were going through the credits. Everyone who had parts in the movie or was part of the writing or production, they pulled up their high school photo when their name whizzed by. Very cool idea. And you probably wouldn’t know them anyway if  you saw their “today” picture.

I give this movie 3 popcorns. It was cute, but I probably won’t watch it again and I definitely won’t be buying it.

Teaser Tuesday 9/29

Teaser TuesdayThis week’s Teaser Tuesday comes from Part 2 of Wicked: Witch and Curse.

Pg 149 “She looked up at him, gasping for air. She had never seen that face before in her life, and yet now she gasped, clawing for breath as if her head was still under the water in the bathtub at the safe house, “I saw … I saw … my husband.”

Yes, I know I am the queen of “What the Hell is going on?” teasers. Guess you’ll have to read the book, or my review to get the gist :)

What are you teasing this week?

Musing_Mondays_(BIG)[5]

I always look at Musing Monday and stew on it for a while before I decide to finally write.

This week’s question is:Do you keep a book wish list, either on paper, Amazon/etc, or via a book database site (Shelfari, GoodReads, LibraryThing)? If yes, do you share this list with others (especially coming up to Christmas)?

I started keeping a list on Borders.com when I really got into reading. It started as a couple pages of books, but then it got serious. Now I have HUNDREDS of books on there. I admit I haven’t added books in a while. It’s so overwhelming right now, I get lost in it.

On Goodreads.com, I keep a list of books that are already on my shelf that I need to read. You can also find it on the right side of my blog.

I do have a list of books in my head that I know I want.  A couple new series, a few follow ups to books I have now and just some randoms. Normally on my birthday and for Christmas, I give everyone a list of different books so no one buys the same ones :)

Do you list????

Wicked Witch and Curse

This book actually has two books, so I’m going to review it in two parts. I just finished the first book and I’m actually yearning for more, which is a good thing since I still have half a book to read :)

Holly is getting ready to go into her senior year of high school, finishing out the summer on a white water rafting trip with her parents and best friend. When it ends tragically, she moves to Seattle to live with her aunt, uncle and 2 cousins.

She hadn’t even made it to Seattle before strange things started (magic) and the moment she got into her new bedroom, it got even more serious (magic).

This book takes you back and forth between today and 600 years ago. There are two major witch/warlock covens, The Cathers and The Deveraux. There was an arranged match up between the two covens that ended tragically and risen back from the grave (MAGIC).

Holly always thought she heard her parents fighting about witches, but she had no idea it was true.

One thing I really liked about this book was that although the girls tried to push the weird dreams(magic)  they were having to the back of their mind, when they found out they were really witches, they were cool with it. I mean, this is life changing. Yes, there was some serious drama going on and they really didn’t have a choice but to embrace it, but it would be hard, I think, to just be like “Oh, I’m a witch? Cool.”

I’ve read a lot of books that jump back and forth through time periods and sometimes it’s hard to determine where you are. This one was very self explanatory. If it jumped really far, it told you where it was. Otherwise, they used regular font for today and italics for the past. I always knew where I was.

At the beginning of each chapter, there was a spell. I thought this was SUPER COOL and here is my favorite one:

Feed us now as hunger grows
Let us feast upon our foes
We shall dine upon their eyes
Hearts and brains, ribs and thighs

Our Lady listen to our cry
We throw our heads back to the sky
Bind our family heart and sole
Comfort us and make us whole

When it comes to the chapters, they are labeled by the English Medieval moons, which they use instead of the months. Very cool! I had no idea there were so many different moons. Check out this site to see all of the different moon names.

Being a Twilight fan, one thing that caught my attention and I LOVED during this book, was that Port Angelus was mentioned. I’m sure it’s just a coincidence, but when it caught my eye, I thought it was cool. Witches, warlocks, vampires …. they’re all from the same mold and love Washington :) Yes, I realize I spelled Angelus with a “u”. That’s how it was spelled in the book. I looked it up online, and yes it’s Angeles! The “u” gives it a little character though!

I am really excited to start this next book. One thing I am hoping for is that we stay in the present  a little more. While I love the old days, I think the characters in this book are really interesting. I love the fact that 3 teenage girls just learned they were witches. I would like to get to know them more. As I flip through the next book, I don’t see any italics so hopefully that means we stick with Holly, Amanda and Nicole!

I give this book 3 bookmarks.

Dog Ear

So the book I am reading, I ordered from Amazon.com. And while I got it for a really good price and it said it was “like new” almost every 2 pages I get angry. Not only did the person who read it before me fold over the pages instead of using a bookmark, they folded them one way, then folded them back another way. LOL Yes, There are 2, I say 2, creases almost every couple of pages.

I do not like creases on my pages. Mahhh.

But I can’t complain TOOOO much because this is a 600 page book that I’ve been carrying in my purse everywhere I go so even though the last 12 pages and the back cover are folded over, and were when I got it, the front cover is also folded now! Argh! I can’t wait to get through this and get it on my shelf and give it a rest and hopefully get it straightened out.

Magnetic Bookmark

This is the kind of bookmark I use. AND I LOVE IT! It allows me to mark the exact paragraph I’m on when I am done reading and it doesn’t fall out when in my purse and it doesn’t CREASE PAGES! Get one, know it, love it :)

Happy Friday!
